Jump-For-Joy News and A Plea for Help

12:00 AM

Hello all,

Sooo....you guys remember that "surprise" that I mentioned in my June BP?

Well, I now have permission to reveal it.

The #RebelliousWriting Movement is officially being moved to....

A website of it's own.

Also, the Team is starting up social media profiles!

ISN'T THIS AWESOME!!!!

I've been jumping for joy ever since the date was announced about...12 hours ago.

So while some of the social media has already been activated, the team is planning to release the website on...

National Book Lover's Day - August 9, 2017.

The #RebelliousWriting Team are all avid book lovers, and it is for love of God and clean books that we are even starting this movement in the first place. So, what better day, right???

Speaking of which...I need some help.

Part of my job on the Team is to put forth book recommendations. So far, the list that I've accumulated is a rather pitiful one....

So, I look to you, fellow readers.

Here are the criteria:

1. The book must be higher than middle-grade (most children's books are clean anyways)
2. There must be no swear words. Words such as crap, suck, screw, etc., are technically vulgar words as well though they are not considered swear words. Since we wish to advocate for clean literature, I would include a content warning with works containing these vulgar words as well.
3. If abuse (alcohol, drug, child, or domestic) is in the book, please determine that it is shown in a negative light. We don't wish to recommend books that would glorify that kind of stuff.
4. There must be no sexual scenes, or any impurity beyond mild kissing.
5. Image does not need to be included, but can if so desired.

You can stick the suggestions in the comments section (or send it via Pinterest if you are on there).

PLEASE send the word along!! Use the #RebelliousWriting (or if you are not a writer but still want to support us, feel free to use our sister hastag #RebelliousReading) on your social media, share our posts, follow us, whatever but do something!!!

Can't wait for August!!!

Scribblingly yours,

Catherine

  1. This was awesome!!!! I do sometimes use the word "screw" but I know I can have a bit of a harsher tongue compared to some people, so I understand that and can vouch for it!

  2. YAY for the coming website! I'm really looking forward to it. XD I'll try to think of some books to add your list, but in the meantime, if you head over to storitorigrace.blogspot.com.au , Victoria reviews books as part of her posting schedule, and always mentions if there are swear words in any of the books she reads! That could be a good place to look for recommendations. :D

  3. Woohoo! I look forward to the website. Well, I write the word crap, but that's as bad as it gets. I don't really say it in my life, but I do think it sometimes and have said it before. That's about it.

However, I get how it is vulgar. If I come across any good books, besides the ones I have listed on my blog, I'll let you know.

    God bless y'all!

  4. Wooooo! Wonderful Post Catherine!

I also try not to use crap or screw but I may use a phrase like "That sucks" in my dialogues. However it is not from the main character and usually from a tougher side character. Content and implications are usually of a higher degree importance to me. A same word in the mouth of two different people can vary from 1-100.

But I agree with your desire to keep this totally clean and your purity in pursuing it to this extent is something I highly advocate and agree with.

    Keep it up Catherine!

  5. I think this movement is awesome, and I'm planning to write a #RebelliousWriting sometime in July! I'll tell you when it's up :)
I'm getting pretty hyped about this whole thing and would love love love to be involved! Is the Pinterest board a group board?

    1. Oh, wait, never mind. It's a page, not a board. *scratches back of neck*

  6. This is awesome! I mostly read children's literature, because it's pretty much always safe, but if you don't really care to have those suggested then just disregard this comment.

    . Esperanza Rising
    . Treasure Island
    . A little Princess
    . Eight Cousins
    . Rose in Bloom
    . Wonderstruck
. The Invention of Hugo Cabret
    . Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
. The Witch of Blackbird Pond

I hope this helps at least a little!

  7. The Homelander series by Andrew Klavan. It does have violence, but not excessive. Also, the Rick Dial series by him as well is great.
I absolutely love the Trixie Belden series, by Julie Campbell and Kathryn Kenny.
    Some other titles:
    Harry Potter :)
    Agatha Christie mysteries
The Lost Girl of Astor Street by Stephanie Morrill
That's all I can think of now. I am so excited to see the website come up in August!!

  9. YES I AM ALWAYS UP FOR BOOKWORMS EXCHANGING RECOMMENDATIONS. Here are mine:

    - You probably already have this on your list, but Resistance by Jaye L. Knight. It's a clean Christian fantasy I just read and totally love <3
    - Return to Harmony by Janette Oke and T. Davis Bunn is another Christian fiction favorite of mine. Perfect for lovers of Little Women or Anne of Green Gables!
    - THE LORD OF THE RINGS AND THE HOBBIT. And The Silmarillion.
    - Tamora Pierce's The Circle Opens, Circle of Magic, and The Circle Reforged series.

Best of luck with your list! I'll return with more recs when I read them.
