A Dinner full of Versatile Literary Quotes: Lots of Little Tags!!!

4:37 PM

Hello all!!

It's be a fair bit since I posted last!

I have a valid excuse...actually a couple of valid excuses. One being RW business - things have been hopping over there!

Speaking of hopping....the biggest reason I haven't been blogging lately is that the Muse has been at it again.....I've got ANOTHER WIP.

I officially have a problem. I swear, you guys are probably so confused, I'm so sorry.....WHY CAN'T MY MUSE BE AN ORDINARY MUSE????? *pounds head into desk and cries*

I promise, I'll introduce the new WIP properly before *too* long - but if you're curious, go check out my Muse's Works in Progress page! (Hint: you can find it currently under the "Novellas" section.)

In lieu of the fact that my muse is still sore from the last word marathon (2003 words!!), and the fact that my Tags-To-Do list has grown again mysteriously, I've decided to a "squishing" (to borrow a word from Lia) of a lot of little tags!!

Daily Quotes Challenge:

I love quotes so much. I wish I could pull out a quote for every time I had to explain a complex idea, because they do it so much better than I can.

My darling friend Belle Anne @ World of Ink and Paper tagged me for this little challenge. You can view her post HERE. Thank you dear friend!!

Ze Rules:

1. Thank the person who nominated you.
2. Post a new quote consecutively for three days.
3. Nominate three bloggers every day of the challenge.

I'm going to follow Belle's example and break the rules on this one. Because ain't nobody got time to hunt up quotes and nominate three bloggers everyday for three days. Nobody. *nods sagely*

Hence, I will post three quotes right here, right now, snagging them from my Goodreads.

Quote #1:

"There is no surer foundation for a beautiful friendship than a mutual taste in literature." ~ P.G. Wodehouse

AHHH this is so true. This is also true for movies, music....other entertainment....it makes for excellent conversations, that is for sure!!!

Quote #2: "No one is useless in the world who lightens the burdens of others" ~ Charles Dickens

Even if someone is an invalid or has a disability, every single person on this Earth has a purpose. And for some, it is bringing sunshine and joy in the world.

Quote #3: "Do not be so open-minded that your brains fall out." ~ G. K. Chesterton

I love how politically incorrect G.K. Chesterton is. Hurrah for common sense, the modern superpower!!!

Sarcasm aside, I greatly enjoyed this challenge. Quotes are such timeless pieces of wisdom and so.....

Versatile.

That's the word.

Versatile Blogger Award:

That was a horrible transition, wasn't it....*facepalm*

An embarrassingly long time ago, my Camp NaNo buddy MiddleEarthMusician tagged me for this little blogger award. You can find her post HERE. Belle Anne @ Worlds of Ink and Paper also tagged me for this. You can find her post HERE.

Thank you so much, you two!! *gives giant hugs*

Ze Rules:

1. Thank the person(s) who tagged you.

2. Share 7 facts about yourself.

3. Tag 10 bloggers

4. Notify your tags via comment on blogs, etc.

The Seven Previously Unknown Facts about Catherine:

Fact #1: I don't like doing the dishes.

Fact #2: I'm a supporter of the Second Amendment, and of concealed carry. (Hope to get mine soon!)

Fact #3: I love horses. I've both ridden and driven horses, and honestly I like doing both. My favorite color horse is black...like the one in my sidebar <3

Fact  #4: I love dairy products. By that I mean I love cheese, yogurt and ice cream. Milk on the other hand....doesn't agree with me for some strange and obscure reason.

Fact #5: I don't wear makeup. Even though I have acne, I don't wear it unless it's a formal occasion. A. I want people to love me for me and not because I have any physical beauty and B. I either scratch or sweat it off. YICK.

Fact #6: I'm a modest dresser. I wear mostly skirts - all of which are knee-length or longer, usually paired with t-shirt, hoodie and tights. I also like wearing boots :).

Fact #7: I'm claustrophobic. I can't stand feeling trapped or caged. It gives me panic attacks. Literally. Not joking. Found this out the hard way.

*clock tolls*

Oh drat! I forgot I was hosting a dinner tonight!!! *scurries to dress, scattering papers everywhere*

Literary Dinner Tag:

I stole this tag from Lilah @ The Singing Writer originally (You can view her post HERE). And then Faith @ The Writer's Song tagged me officially not too long ago! You can view Faith's post HERE. Thank you both!!

There seems to be no rules attached to this one! (Except the rules of good breeding, of course...)

Which is good, because I have some hungry guests in the other room. Allow me to introduce them!

One character who can cook/likes to cook.

Sam Gamgee from The Lord of the Rings

33
From Goodreads

This hobbit is famous for his roast rabbit...and I will certainly give him more appreciation that that rotten stinker Gollum gave him for it. I love campfire-roasted food *smacks lips* and Sam, being a true hobbit, will also make sure we don't run out of food.

Oh yes, those are very necessary for this meal. Good call, Sam!!

One character who has money to fund the party.

Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice

After all, a man with £10,000 a year surely has enough money to fund a dinner party! (Elizabeth can tag along, someone has to make him agreeable. LOL.)

1885
From Goodreads

As long as a certain pipsqueak doesn't come with them....*posts a door guard*

One character who might cause a scene.

Cate from Courting Cate

Courting Cate (The Courtships of Lancaster County, #1)
From Goodreads

Has anyone here read The Taming of the Shrew by Shakespeare??

Well, Courting Cate is a retelling of that play, set in Lancaster PA. It's definitely one of my favorite Amish fiction pieces. And Cate, as you can guess is "the Shrew".

She would be absolute fun at this party. And I'd love to have a long conversation with her about a certain Amish character of mine....

One character who is funny/amusing.

If I could invite half of the town of Clear Creek, Oregon, I would....

But my table won't be able to fit all of those people, so I'll choose...

Liz Sutton from the Gallagher Girls series.

I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You (Gallagher Girls, #1)
From Goodreads.

Liz is definitely my favorite nerdy character, and the scrapes that she gets into are absolutely hysterical. She can definitely keep the conversation light and amusing with her stories!

One character who is super social/popular.

Marguerite Blakeney from The Scarlet Pimpernel.

The Scarlet Pimpernel
From Goodreads

Because every single party needs at least one socialite at it! She can update me on the latest fashions from Paris and London while she's here, I'm so woefully behind...LOL.

One villian.

Oh, must I?!

After all, why would anyone want to hear about dastardly deeds and murders at the dinner table??
But, if you insist....

Thackeray Holmes from the Prairie Brides series.

The Cooke Brothers (Prairie Brides, Books 1-3)

At least HE knows how to behave at a dinner unlike a certain cousin of the Darcy's....

which I had hoped to keep from coming, but it seems like he slipped past my door guard....*resolves to put that guy out on his ear as soon as dinner is over*

One couple – doesn’t have to be romantic.

Anne and Gilbert Blythe from The Chronicles of Avonlea.

Anne of Ingleside (Anne of Green Gables, #6)
From Goodreads
Because they are the most awesomest and cutest couple EVER. I wanna hear about all the children...especially Rilla. I need to know how Rilla and Kenneth's story finishes!!!

One hero/heroine.

Archer from Pippa of Lauramore

Pippa of Lauramore (Eldentimber, #1)

Gosh darn it, I love this guy. I want him to tell me all the adventures that we had to miss because Pippa misbehaved and had to stay at the castle. Seriously, when you go and bargain with a dragon and risk live and limb trying to find items for a scavenger hunt to help a knight win a tournament so she doesn't marry a jerk even though you want to marry her yourself....*gasps for breath and melts*

(wow that was a long sentence.....)

(but seriously, if you love knightly tournaments, adventure-loving princesses, and scheming princes, GO READ THIS BOOK. IT IS SO BEAUTIFUL....gah. Review to follow on Goodreads...after I finish re-reading (yes, that is re-reading) it.)

One underappreciated character.

Marcia Schuyler from Marcia Schuyler.

574100

Okay, I do have some issues with Marcia Schuyler by Grace Livingston Hill. I swear, hardly anyone was in their right mind in this book. Mrs. Schuyler and David especially. (Like seriously, he needed mental health counseling or something).

And the plot was just odd. Like tossing a 14-16 year old (I'm not certain exactly what her age was, but she was still going to school, so....) into marriage to save the face of her family and her bridegroom. When in reality, they should have owned up, called off the wedding, or something more sensible.

That being said...Marcia is one of my favorite book characters ever.

She may have been a bit rash taking her sister's place as the bride...but I LOVED her heroic sacrificial womanly self. You wouldn't believe that she was as young as she was by how she acted when she was married.

One character of your own choosing.

Ellie Sweet from The Revised Life of Ellie Sweet.

The Revised Life of Ellie Sweet (Ellie Sweet, #1)
From Goodreads

She's the character that introduced me to the wide world of YA publishing. It was so abstract before! This book made me realize that it was possible, and that I could possibly make it.

Besides, I want to know how she and Chase are doing....

And so concludes my ridiculously long tag squishing post!! *collapses in chair*

For sanity and memory's sake, I'm going to leave these tags open. Take one, take all, I don't mind in the least!

Have you read any of these books? Were you surprised at any of the facts I shared about myself? Do you like quotes? Chat with me in the comments!!

Scribblingly yours,

Catherine

  1. Yay, you did the tag! <3 This was super fun to read, my dear, and I definitely enjoyed it! RW business has indeed been hopping—hopefully I’ll be a little more into the swing of it come end of February! I’m traveling a ton the next couple months so I’ll have to wait til then to actually do any kind of posts for that. But I digress. Lovely post! And your transitions were adorable and awesome. XD

  3. Fun tags! I can see why you'd want your concealed carry - I've been considering that as well. It's a little frightening to live in today's world.

I only have one complaint: your criticism of Gollum as a "rotten stinker." Whatever did that poor little mutant hobbit do to you? XD

  4. Catherine! How can you say that about your muse!? (There, there *pats muse on back*) You are brilliant and what is ordinary anyway? (Also, don't pound your head on your desk.) ;D

Now, my biggest question was WHY DID YOU PUT THAT DOOR GUARD!?? I was going to go, and I wasn't going to do anything, just listen! But that guard hauled me out of there. Who is he, anyway? He seemed familiar. ;D

Okay, okay, I'll leav--- *gets kicked out by guard*

AHA! No wonder I wasn't allowed in! Great post Catherine...are you sure you got rid of that guard? Because I think he is---! *gets thrown out by guard as well*

  5. I thought that was an excellent way to combine the tags. Especially the title. Very well done!

I really enjoyed this, especially because I recognized many of the books. That doesn't happen to me often. Great job!

    2. The Lord of the Rings, The Scarlet Pimpernel, and Anne of Ingleside (I've read most of the books in the series, though I haven't yet read that one, but I really want to). I also recognize Pride and Prejudice and The Revised life of Ellie Sweet, but I haven't read those yet either.

  7. This was a fun post to read! All the tags and whatnot. :)

I actually have read The Taming of the Shrew, which, I feel, is a pretty underrated work of Shakespeare's. It's pretty comical, in my opinion.

  8. Great quotes! :D

The fact that you did all of these tags at once is amazing! And it was fun to read!! XD

  9. OKAY THESE TAGS ARE AWESOME.
And I may just have to steal the literary dinner tag, because that's just too amazing.

    2. Oh and I know you just did these, and you might not be up to it and it's perfectly fine if you decline, but I tagged you for the sunshine tag at my blog. Don't feel like you have to do it though. XD

  10. Awesome quotes!!

Yeah *nods* also not a makeup person, and definitely a modest dresser.

It was fun reading all of your answers, Catherine!

  11. I loved this post! Especially that last tag. :D
And, yeah, I know how it is when people think your weird just because you dress modestly. I never wear pants except at home or doing athletic stuff (which is rare for me), and I've gotten a couple good-natured laughs from my friends because I always wear skirts and dresses of rather unnecessarily fancy nature everywhere. :P
Man, your reading sounds so much like what I like, and - wow, had we met in real life like a couple years ago, I think we'd be good friends now. :)
It's so fun reading your posts, and I can't wait to see what's up next! :D

  12. HA HOW FUN! I adore that literary dinner party tag. May just have to make off with it myself.

The Chesterton quote is one of my all-time favorites! *dances around in glee* *remembers she has no Chesterton books to read currently and slumps into a pout*

Huzzah for modest dressing! I don't wear much make-up, either. Just a touch here and there on certain days.

    Lovely tags, Catherine!

  13. I loved reading this post, Catherine!!! XD I can't wait to hear more about your new WIP!!! YOU ARE GOING TO CONCEAL CARRY!?!?! THAT IS SO AWESOME!!! I'm going to as soon as I get old enough. *nods* I LOVE those quotes! Thanks for sharing them! :-D

  14. Yes! Quotes = <3 I've collected so many through the years. I thought maybe I wanted to cover my walls with them, but it would probably be too busy.

Thank you for following my blog! =)
