The Fictional Portal Tag

8:30 AM

Hello all!

For this Taggy Tuesday, I've got a tag of a different sort.

This was one of those nameless questionnaire thingies that apparently was passed around in other circles. Eowyn @ A Catholic Author presented as a tag (which I believe is the true identity of this little fun morsel) and she tagged all of her blogging acquaintances with it. Being a name wizard, I gave it a name based on the questions: The Fictional Portal Tag.

I believe it follows the standard tag rules, so let's go ahead and jump all in!

1. If my life were fiction it would be set in:

Probably sometime back in history - it's a tossup between Medieval/Renaissance, 18th and 19th centuries. These time periods are frankly my favorites out of all time.

I'd probably be most at home in the 19th century :) The pioneer lifestyle is very appealing to me, because they have the old-fashioned morals and small-town community that I crave so much. And I do have a sense of adventure :).

To be honest, I don't believe my story would be set in the prairies. I'm not a fan of very harsh winters or the unbreaking sea of sod. I'd rather have the trees and mountains.

I believe my story will be set in western Ohio, which is one of my favorite places in the world :).

2. Right now I would be wearing:

A very long calico dress, with many petticoats, a work apron, shoes and socks, and period undergarments.... including a corset. And maybe a scarf on my head to keep it clean.

I definitely love the dress in this picture, not so wild about the cap.

3. The biggest crisis I would be facing would be:

Surviving. Getting enough food saved for winter. Not working myself to death. Trying to find a husband. All those good pioneer struggles that you often find in stories.

4. My biggest joy would come from:

Little things in nature. Antics of my animals, especially the babies. Comaderie among community, those little everyday things. I'm not hard to please, it seems.

5. The most frustrating daily challenge would be:

How long everything takes - and I get a few things done instead of the whole list. I tend to take things slow and steady, which helps in quality, I suppose.

6. Looking out my window, I would see:

Wide fields and pastures, with mountains looming in the very far distance. Animals grazing, sun on the dew, a pond just off to the side. Barns are just out of sight of one window. Birds flying overhead.

7. The other characters in the story would be:

A good circle of girl friends, especially those with the same state of life that I have. An older married couple who act as mentors, because I love inter-generational interactions. And probably the most important, a love interest/husband. As the pioneer story was all about settling a country.

8. An essential element of a happy ending would be:

A successful romance, complete with marriage and babies. And of course, surviving the elements and being out of debt, LOL.

Well, that was a really fun tag! I'll leave this little gem out for anyone who wants it :) I'd love to hear about whatever fictional lives y'all create!

Scribblingly yours,

Catherine

  4. Ooh what fun! And you chose western Ohio! 19th and 18th centuries are lovely. I believe I'd go with the 20th century myself...

  6. Your pioneer life sounds so lovely! I don't think I quite have the grit for it, but it'd be lovely to experience for a little while. I just finished one of Willa Cather's novels, and her books always get me wishing I could experience pioneer living.

If I were to go back, I think I'd live in 1770s Philadelphia or Boston. I just love the American Revolution, and I'd love being in the thick of it like that.

I loved reading your answers, Catherine. :) I think it would be fun if you wrote a romance novel set in that time period.
