Writing Sibling Tag

10:04 AM

Hello again!

It's Taggy Tuesday (well, okay, Friday) yet again, and I'm just going to squeeze this one in before the New Year starts. Because who wants leftover tags?

This one originated with The Doorman @ The Lord, His Lady and their Doorman, but I was tagged by another. Let us begin, shall we?

Las Reglas parra Tag:

Regla Uno:  Thank the blogger who tagged you and provide a link to their post.

In this case, it is Keturah Lamb @ Keturah's Korner. You can view her original answers HERE.

Regla Dos: Answer the inquires, including any added ones by means of "Regla Seis".

Regla Tres: Always use your own characters. No exception, unless you don't actually have sibling characters (in which case you need to go write up some) or you don't write (in which case you need to start ASAP).

Regla Quatro: Tag three other bloggers.

I'm going to get it out of the way here:

Nicole Dust @ Legend of a Writer
Ceci @ Ceci Creates
MK @ Sarcastic Scribblings

Regla Cinco: If you happen to have any siblings who blog, they are automatically tagged and cannot count towards your three.

Well, since none of my siblings blog, I'm safe in that regard.

Regla Seis: Add one question or prompt to the list of questions the person before you answered relating to siblings and/or characters. Answer the question, and provide a list of all the questions of that you answered so far (So, for example, someone I tag will have 11 questions to answer, one of which will be their own. The next will have 12, 10 of which are mine, 1 of which is the previous blogger's, and 1 of which is there own. The next person will have 13, and so forth....)

Regla Siete: Close out the post making some statement or other glorifying the King of kings.

Easy enough, right?

Let us begin!

Name the most annoying sibling character in any of your stories (Either annoying to you as the author or to any other characters)

Vickie Duncan from From the Cave, the sequel to The White Rose. She's a brat and that's all I'll say about that.

Name the most caring sibling character in any of your stories

I would wager money that Janina from The White Rose would be the most caring of all the characters, never mind the siblings.

Name the most entertaining sibling character in any of your stories

I don't have a really good answer for this one, unfortunately. My most entertaining character is a fiance not a sibling.

Name a sibling character who was inspired in some way by an actual sibling

This is stretching it just a hair, but I have based several characters off of my best friend Lia, whom I regard as the sister I never had (and even call her sis).

Name the largest character family (talking family, not family tree) in any of your stories  Provide one to three excerpts from your sibling characters' dialog from any of your stories

The largest "talking" family that I have is the Sigurdnirs, the royal family of Duventoliel that is featured in The White Rose. Out of 8 children, six talk in the book.

Here are some snippets:

Janina sighed. “It’s a pity it’s drawn by lot. Wouldn’t be interesting if –”

“Don’t you have some berries that you have to pick?” Magda’s bossy manner reasserted itself.

Janina bristled. “Yes.” Her voice had a sharp note.

“Then why aren’t you doing it? It’s nearly noon hour, I would have thought you would have been picking long before this.”

Janina crossed her arms and her eyes hardened. “I will get around to doing it. Be at ease!”

Magda immediately scoffed. “Sure, you will. Several hours later and you’ll have whiny brats to boot. And half the fruit will be spoiled. No, no way am I letting that fly – not for my marriage tournament. Go collect your little “helpers” and get started. Go on!”

“Orla!!” Janina, upon seeing her older sister, had tossed aside her sewing before running into her sister’s embrace. Helena and Rebbekah, being freed, squealed and ran towards their aunt Alvilda.

Laughing, Orla hugged Janina briefly and held her at arms length.
“Janina! Have you grown to be a maid already? Goodness, you’ve changed much in a year.” Orla cupped her sister’s face lovingly.

She then turned to see Magda perched on the balcony ledge, her reeds set aside for the time being. Orla grinned wider as she saluted her sister playfully. “Greetings to you, Blue Star of Duventoliel! And how does it feel to be in the center of attention, butterfly?”

“Rather good, sister Orla!” Magda untied her damp apron and walked into the main parlor. “And a long time coming.”

Name three published books which have an amazing portrayal of siblings or family

Disowned by Sarah Addison-Fox.
When Love Calls by Lorna Seilstad
The Forgotten Sisters (Princess Academy #3) by Shannon Hale

Name another author's character family that you wouldn't mind jumping into

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
 All the sister things....

Provide an excerpt of sibling drama or camaraderie from any title (though be sure to credit it)

I'll just redirect you to Marcia Schuyler, which is on Project Gutenberg. That whole book is devoted to sister drama, I swear.

Name two characters from two unrelated books that you feel would make for great literary siblings (whether in terms of getting along, or being a constant head-to-head combat)

I'm literally drawing a blank on this one....

What is the most tragic sibling relationship you can think of?

Boromir and Faramir from Lord of the Rings. I'm sure there's worse, but I can't think of any right now.

Bonus Question:

If you could adopt any literary character as your sibling, who would it be?

Glorifying Statement: Praised be Jesus Christ, Son of God who was born in Bethlehem to redeem the world!

And that wraps it up! How big are your literary families? Who is your literary sibling?

Scribbingly yours,

Catherine
