Musing on June (and May...and April...), Hailing July

12:09 AM

Greetings from the cave!

Wow, have I a lot to catch up on! It definitely was not my intention to switch to a quarterly wrap-up. Unfortunately for me, April and May were an absolute washout for me being productive (except in school).

But it's all good. I have a new job, and a much better attitude. Therefore, it is time to get back to the swing of things. And that means...getting this wrap-up on the road!

- Haven't finished Catriona yet. Somebody snitched it and I haven't gotten it back yet.

- I picked up a couple of freebies on Kindle sometime in May. So far, the most promising has been The School Mistress of Emerson Pass by Tess Thompson. It's a light Christian romance read, for when I'm so burnt out that I need something like that.

Oh boy. Three months worth of streaming. This outta be interesting. I'll give the highlights in no particular order.

- Funny Face (Really like this one!)
- Dick van Dyke Show, seasons 1-3
- Great British Menu, seasons 5 and 8
- Petticoat Junction, season 1
- Yours, Mine and Ours (a rewatch, this time with family!)

This is only a smattering though. Interspersed in there were a lot of documentaries and a lot of rewatches of family movies. In addition, there are some new YouTube channels I've started following, including Sandi Brock, Liziqi, and The Religious Hippie.

- I started to pick up TWR again in recent weeks as I recover from The Storm that was April and May. I'm now at the sticky end where I gotta start to do the heavy lifting. In other words, bits and pieces are flying everywhere and it's incredibly stressful.

The White Rose, Draft 4:
Edited Word Count: 12,322
Chapters Edited: 7

- Now, July is upon us. So will I do July Camp NaNo?

In the past, the answer would have been a yes. But this year is really uncertain. I'm taking a summer grad course (trust me, it was needed), I just changed jobs, I'm planning a big volleyball tournament for July, and I'm still balancing a few more projects. So I really don't think that I'll be able to swing it this year.

But if I was, I know of the perfect project that I would do. And no, it's not TWR. It's a new story. And it's not a novel or novella or a short story. Or a poem either. You have to guess.

- I made my first "aesthetic" playlists! The first is called "A Walk in the Fields" because the songs are a light sort, ones that you think of a character strolling. Many also have nature sounds to make it a little more authentic. The second is called "A Walk in the City Park" because the songs are faster, but they're similar to the Walk in the Fields one.

- My brothers and I started a third "clan" playlist for our country music. Seems that half of our travel playlist is now country and that's only the tip of the iceberg for us. So we thought we'd better have it go to it's own home so we don't saturate our travel playlist.

- I've been trying to find ambient music, but a lot of it is using copyrighted music which I don't like. I found a few artists like Bonny Grace from Epidemic Sound, which I really like.

Now for music recs:

For rock fans (especially those who are Catholic)...

Yes, I listen to rock music. It's not all bad believe me. Especially this one. Listen to it, and you'll see what I mean.

For those who attempted to skip over it, this rock song commemorates a specific incident in 1527 when there was a group of Swiss Guards that were killed in defense of the Pope. Perfectly clean, and it's history. Now, go back and listen to it.

For Working by Candlelight, I wrote one post: A Little Helping Hand. This was before my split with Bob Evans, and I'm glad I wrote that post when I did. For certain, had I waited a few weeks, my aspect on that particular manager would have been much different. But I shall be charitable and leave off the negative.

For The Rebelling Muse, I wrote one post: Feedburner is Going Away. Right now, this blog is littered with drafts and I really need to do something about that. Dragons, editing, tags, and overdue reviews seem to be the order of the day. I probably will be doing some major clean-up of that draft pile soon.

For The History Cat, I wrote no posts. But I think I know the reason. I think I have written myself into a niche these four years and it's quite hard for the Catherine persona to talk about something that has been markedly my real name's domain. I thought the anonymity would have allowed me to speak my mind about certain issues, but on-going censorship has made me lose courage and remain silent. I know that's not always good. So I don't know what to do about that.

1. Edit (and maybe publish) The White Rose

I'm now up to 7 chapters edited and making pretty decent progress. But now it's down to the nitty gritty....figuring out what to cut out and how to fill in the holes.

Well, that's enough talking from my end. What has been happening with you guys?

(sheesh, what a stale ending...anybody know how to end a post??)

Scribbingly yours,

Catherine

  2. "Somebody snitched it and I haven't gotten it back yet" << XD So relatable! Siblings. Gotta love them. (At least, I assume it was a sibling that snitched it! :))

Ooofff I'll pray for things to go well with TWR! That sounds quite stressful!

That song was super, super cool! I don't usually listen to rock, but I (and my sister) enjoyed it. :) And now I want to learn more about what actually happened!

(Lol, I have NO idea how to end a post either! XD)

  3. I watched Yours, Mine, and Ours, both versions this past month! Such fun light movies.

  4. YOU RECOMMENDED SABATON! MY FAV! Absolutely recommend The Winged Hussars (about the largest cavalry charge in history by some really cool Polish horsemen!)All there songs are about military history so there's really cool stories behind them all!

Lol, and I never imagined the day Catherine would rec a heavy metal band. You can also listen to their "the Blood of Bannockburn" if you want a little Scottish heritage with your music. :)

Since someone already guessed a play or screen play I'm going to guess a non fiction book. Maybe a memoir or a collection of stories about your family?

  5. Ah, Funny Face! It's so, well, fun! I just saw that in December. Is the version of Yours, Mine, Ours the old version or the new one?

I am fascinated by your secret project...

I listen to a good mix of rock, so that's so cool that you found the song by Sabaton! I hadn't listened to them before. I'm going to have to replay that one a few times to see if I like it or not. The concept is awesome!
