Meet Catherine!

Who is Catherine?

Catherine Hawthorn is a fiction writer who prays in Latin and is in love with the traditions of the Catholic Church. She has the spirit of a Celtic shield-maiden, the grit of a bonneted pioneer, and the heart of a romantic. By firelight, she patiently mends plot holes made by her rebellious muse and spins tales of historical fiction and fantasy; and when the sun shines, she will be either found in the garden with a spade, the kitchen with a song, or in her old-fashioned bedroom knotting threads together.

Some Fun Facts About Me

I'm a Traditional Catholic! I attend a Latin Mass facilitated by the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter, and I participate heavily in my parish's Young Adult Group and Parish Events Committee. In my daily life, I follow a lot of the traditional practices, such as all-year Friday abstinence and praying the Rosary. I'm also a big fan of Gregorian Chant and even sing in my church's choir.

I am currently writing a Catholic fantasy series called The Epics of Verden! The first, The White Rose of Duventoliel, is currently being edited by me.

I live in the great (and expensive) state of Pennsylvania, USA.

I have a Masters of Art degree in Public History, and I currently work as a military archivist. I am also a former living history reenactor, and I hope to get back into that in the next couple of years. My areas of study include agricultural and rural history, 18th-20th century American history, and early American Catholicism.

My temperament is melancholy-choleric, with my Myers-Briggs code being INFJ.

My favorite movies are an eclectic mix, which include but are not limited to: period dramas, Catholic saint movies, Disney (especially Disney Princesses), musicals, and Marvel.

I am a tea drinker. The Celestial Herbal teas are my go-to!

I love watching classic TV shows such as A-Team, Hogan's Heroes, McHale's Navy, Green Acres, Andy Griffith Show, All Creatures Great and Small, Bonanza, and others! I also watch a LOT of documentaries, topics varying from farming to history to science to religion.

My favorite season is summer, because I can't stand the cold.

If I absolutely had to pick favorite authors, they would include J.R.R. Tolkien, G.K. Chesterton, C.S. Lewis, Jen Turano, Jane Austen, and Lucy Maud Montgomery.

My favorite heroine is Eowyn from Lord of the Rings!

I love to listen to Celtic, country, instrumentals, medieval music, and musicals, though I will also listen to the occasional classical, jazz, or clean pop/rock piece. I also like podcasts - my favorites are What God is Not, The History Guy, and Further Up and Further In.

I am a pro-life and politically conservative person.

Some other hobbies that I indulge in include cooking, baking, sewing, embroidering, knitting, crocheting, playing music, taking pictures, and even shooting a gun occasionally.

Catherine
