Shared WIP Tag Week 3: Yearly Goals

8:00 AM

As the leaves get bigger outside, so do the goals of a writer.

*readers give Catherine a judging glare*

Hem. Maybe I'd better leave off  the proverb-making for another time, eh?

Anyway, this week's Shared WIP post is all about yearly goals. Oh yes, that buzzphrase that is all over Catherine's blog is making a resurgence again. Seriously, this obsession is growing in frightening proportions, it's a wonder that the blogging police haven't been called in yet....

Name your yearly (writing) goals!

Write a complete draft of The White Rose and having my first beta read.
Finish Project Blueprint
Write 20k words for Fair Winds

There are additional goals which include writing all of the draft posts that are sitting on my Blogger dashboard, but those three major goals are what I'm working towards.

Which goal are you most looking forward to starting/completing? Why?

Well, I have to say, getting complete drafts of both The White Rose and Fair Winds would be the best thing ever. I'm really excited to have alphas/betas to read them as I am dying for more constructive feedback on both of them.

Is there any goal that you aren’t that enthusiastic about completing? Why?

The one that I'm least enthused about is finishing Project Blueprint. Only because Project Blueprint is extremely tedious and boring. So I may be rejoicing the most whenever I get that particular project done, but I'm not happy about working on it....

Did you maybe set too many goals for this year? ;)

I went a little light this year, leaving room for any goals that crop up....which is what happened. I may find that I made too many spontaneous goals that I can achieve...but I won't that until the end of the year.

^^Me surviving my spontaneous goals

How do you keep on track/accountable with your goals?

I have a couple of different places that I keep track of them. I have a notebook, a checklist pad and a page on my blog for that purpose. Though, to be honest, the goals tracker page on the blog is the command central for the goals sheet.

Have you told your family about any of your goals? What do they think about your goals?

Not really? I have mentioned to them one or two things, and 2 of my brothers read my blog so they know that way.

Frankly, considering the fact that some of the male contingents of my family were disturbed about my mental state from some of my old writing, I don't trust it in their hands. One brother is certainly supportive, while my dad has wondered if I can make money off of it (isn't that a Dad thing???).

Are you planning to do NaNoWriMo in November? If so, do you know what you will be writing?

I am indeed planning on doing NaNoWriMo this year! If everything goes well with The White Rose, this year's NaNo will be devoted to From the Cave, it's sequel. If the draft of The White Rose is still not completed, then I shall devote NaNo to finishing that. Either way, I shall be deep in Verden in November, which is fine by me.

Are you nervous about any of your goals? Are some out of your comfort zone?

Not really? I am a bit nervous that my plot will be weak for both drafts, but that is what revisions are for...right???

Now, if I was at the editing/pitching part of the journey, then yes, I would be nervous. Pitching especially, that's scarwee to me. *hides under blankie*

How are you doing on your goals so far?

"Slow and steady wins the race"

That quote pretty much just sums it up right there....

  1. That Bombur GIF, though.... pretty much describes NaNo to a T. XD

Good luck with all your goals! Sorry, I don’t have much advice concerning sanity - I’m pretty sure I’m losing it over here too..... XD

  2. (Yes, that totally is a Dad thing)

Haha, yeah, the organization one is always the boring one. Unless you are procrastinating on the other two...

  4. Ohhhh yeah, alpha/beta reads can be scary. Thankfully I can throw things at Sarah for her to proofread once or so before anyone else does, so that's super nice. But, honestly, it's great getting the feedback and seeing others love it and also find things that can make the books better.

  5. "Slow and Steady wins the race" is one of my favorite quotes ever! So true for so many things in life.

AHH! Having your work beta read is one of the most exciting and terrifying things ever. Like, it feels like handing over your child and hoping they don't drop it, but at the same time, you're thrilled someone else is cooing over them.

I feel ya with the family thing. I'm pretty sure that most of my family would be disturbed over my mental state if they read my work, especially Simon Says. But let them be disturbed, I guess. The truth is the truth, painful or not.

I hope you're able to smash those goals, girl! All the best to you!
